My son has to take the SAT this Spring. I was wondering if anybody can tell me what is the best way to study for this. Is it worth it to pay for Kaplan or Princeton review courses? Which one is better? Thanks for the advice.
I would say it depends on your son. If he can focus on his own, he can take the online prep courses. Ours is offered free by our school system, and my son just took the SAT and did very well. One thing I found out is that if your child pays for the course, and does well on the test, he may end up teaching the next SAT prep session! One of my kids and a friend's son were both offered jobs teaching classes, so I don't put too much stock in the qualifications of the instructors. Just my opinion.
I took both of them, and personally preferred Princeton Review.
They both are helpful in different ways, if you want, I'll go in to more detail about it later.
IMO, SAT classes are way overrated, just have him read passages/do math problems/write essays on his own. I mean, really all Princeton Review and Kaplan do are give additional problems.

I personally like Princeton study guides myself. I once had to use their GMAT book and I thought it was way better than other guides on the market.
My son will do extremely well on the math. But he will probably need some help on the english/writing part. I agree it's overrated but unfortunately, it counts for alot when it comes to admissions and/or applying for scholarships.

does your sons school offer the PSAT?? My school offers it to anyone who wants to take it. You used to have to pay $12 to take the test up untill last year. Starting with this School year the State will pick up the cost. I got my results back last week and scored somewhere around the ballpark of 1150.
