How is the I-10 route through El Paso? I've heard different stories regarding Border Patrol, etc. Any tips?

If you're in the country illegally, carrying drugs or otherwise criminally engaged you're best off not traveling ANY border highway.

Don't beat around the bush, what are your concerns about the Border Patrol? No one never need even think about it, but the fact that you ask raises suspicions. The only stories you hear of Border Patrol usually evolve around illegal activity.

Don't worry about it - it's not a problem at all.

I'm as normal as you can get. No criminal history, I'm a professional female that is married. Just read some other posts and wonder why I hear people saying they get stopped a lot along this stretch of highway. I could care less, I just don't want it to interfere with my driving time. Was wondering if I need to allow more than what Rand McNally says.

It's not any longer than a pit stop at a rest area would take. But yes, you will go through a check point.

It's no big deal, and only takes a few minutes, if even that. Sometimes there is a short line, but it goes fast. But, there is no way around it, you will need to pull over. I'd say five to fifteen minutes max. Think of it as the TSA of the highway!

The checkpoint will ask if you are a US Citizen, there will probably be a sniffer dog out that is brought around your car and then you are on your way. If it's not backed up, only takes a couple of minutes.
