El Paso is the 2nd best urban city to retire in!

This was based on the following:

1. Can you afford to live there? We included a cost of living index to determine if the city is affordable for retirees on a fixed income. The average cost of living index is 100 across all U.S. cities.
2. Can you afford help if and when you need it? The cost of assisted living varies widely across cities, so our calculation includes the costs of homemaker services. Homemaker services include basic household assistance such as shopping, laundry, personal hygiene and meal preparation, allowing older individuals to live in their own homes as they age.
3. Is healthcare affordable? We assessed the relative cost of healthcare through the cost of a doctor’s visit.
4. Can you have an active social life? To assess whether seniors can have a peer group and active social life in these cities, we included the percentage of the population over 65.
5. Is the weather warm? Many seniors prefer to move to sunny locales, so we incorporated cities with a high average annual temperature.
6. Is the city walkable? We assessed how easy it is to live without a car through the Walk Score of each city.

I suspect for those with lots of money it is, but the property taxes are horrendous. It seems a lot of people are thinking of leaving for the horrid property taxes.

Hmm, higher than normal property taxes versus across the board lower than normal everyday living expenses. Yeah, sure, moving away is the correct fiscal decision

Oh yeah, and quite a few people speak Spanish here. Get out while you can!

Property taxes are the main reason for leaving. I am seriously looking to leave for a host of reasons. And I am 3rd generation El Pasoan. What is wrong with wanting a change??

I can see leaving. The traffic is getting very bad here -- the big city kind of congestion is upon us now.

I like the weather but can see having some lakes and water and a bit more green could be nice.

The taxes will be my main reason -- they just keep going up and up -- 400 and up a month just for property taxes seems pretty oppressive -- it's hard enough for working people to come up with that much, I sure can't see how people on fixed incomes do it.
