What are your thoughts fellow El Pasoan's on this story?

"The EPISD will hold elections for three of its seven Board of Trustees seats in May. It will be a crucial turning point for the district, signaling its transition from a state-appointed Board of Managers to elected trustees after years of corruption, fraud and public mistrust."

EPISD has suffered from poor leadership at its top echelon for many years. The current regime is not much of an improvement. I'm hoping the recent disasters will motivate a bigger turnout for the upcoming election and that the new board will start moving i a positive direction instead of focusing on damage control.

I think the "board of managers" will close those schools BEFORE the the elected board takes office thereby preventing the elected board from taking the heat with the voters. Just like the "blue ribbon panel" in Washington. Granted , a couple of those schools need to be closed but some others, I just shake my head!!!

Anything that happens with EPISD will have to go to a bond. The current board cannot make those decisions. I have been attending the meetings and originally my childrens' school was going to be closed. We encouraged all parents to fill out the questionnaire and it has been removed from the schools slated to close. I think the school being one of the only elementary schools in El Paso to achieve National Blue Ribbon recognition helped also.

Here is a link to the facilities master plan.
