Just a coincidence these states all have democrat governors. This is outrageous. If military votes cannot be counted in any state, the election dates must be moved forward to allow these votes to be counted.

How many bureaucrats will lose their jobs over this? Zero. But the head election official in each state should be fired.

I agree w/OP.

Just a thought , as I know no one will lose a job over this (board of elections are political positions, I believe),isn't it odd 2 states (NY, ILL) are highly Dem voters -- and many troops might not be? (I don't know about NM being highly Dem in votes)

NY, you don't see a lot of liberal left-leaning people joining the military. Could be just simply the vote might mess up the way the state's elections go to not get those ballots out........ Agreed that no votes should be counted without those ballots.

Opinions?

Totally agree. Military fight our wars and if anyones vote should be counted it should be theirs. Too bad for the inconvienience of being out of the country.

And if we could just have elections on the same day every cycle <sarcasm> maybe a plan could be implemented to keep this from happening?????????? Gov't can screw up a wet dream.

This is unconscionable IMO

In New York's Rensselaer County (across the river from Albany, home to RPI, and historically Republican), Barack Obama showed up on the 2008 ballot as "Barack Osama."

But yeah, I'm sure it's a Democratic conspiracy. Nevermind that New York's Board of Elections mandates both a Democratic and Republican representative.

What does that have to do with getting ballots out to the military on time?

It is some of the counties-not the entire states.

As far as NY goes it likely has to do with the late dates that a candidate can decline a nomination, or be replaced, etc. Someone running for office other than a Judge has until late September to decline or be replaced on the ballot, for Judges it goes into early October. The whole Lazio/Paladino Conservative line switch is an example.

Paladino and Lazio ran against each other for the GOP nomination. Typically in NY the Conservative Party will endorse the GOP nominee, or at least give the potential GOP nominee ballot status in the Primary. However, due to Paladino's earlier antics the Conservative Party refused to give Paladino a line on the Conservative Primary Ballot. Paladino went on to with the GOP nomination, Lazio the Conservative nomination. This would have resulted in two prominent Republicans being on the General Election Ballot for Governor, Paladino on the Republican line, and Lazio on the Conservative line, which resulted in concerns in a split Republican vote.

As a result of the concerns of a split GOP vote, pressure was put on Lazio to decline to Conservative Party ballot nomination for Governor even though he won the Primary so he could be replaced on the Conservative line with Paladino since Paladino won the GOP Primary. Lazio did decide to decline the Conservative Party nomination. As a result the Conservative Party line for Governor then went to Paladino and Lazio got the Conservative line for a Judge in the Bronx (if a candidate wins a Party Primary and decides to drop out they still need to appear on the ballot somewhere).

Now all of this switching, taking Lazio off the Conservative line for Governor, replacing him on the Conservative line with Paladino and giving Lazio the Conservative line for Judge in the Bronx happened at the deadline, which was only two weeks ago. The fact these changes occurred so close to the Military ballot deadline likely made it virtually impossible to comply since it does take some time to make the changes on all of the ballots.

Only 300 Absentee ballots in one county had this error, which doesn't appear to make any difference to voters, as it is unequivocal who they would be voting for for President.

Default Clear cut.....

Compliance should be linked to federal funding. This is very serious stuff as it deprives the very people that defend the republic of a voice in the government they swear allegience to protect.

Depriving service men and women of their vote should immediately halt any federal funds from reaching those states.

Outrageous disregard of voting rights should not be tolerated.

Talk from the DOJ suggests they will someday do something about non compliance.....but just not in time for this very important election.

Of course NY has Andy Cuomo to oversee compliance.... oops he's busy persecuting AIG bonus recipients with threat of prosecution.

I think they should be prosecuted regardless of whether it's incompetence or intentional. I also think their whole state should be penalized monetarily.
