Privately owned and run businesses could generally do whatever they wanted, I thought?
Google has never helped me out with that question. I know it's illegal to discriminate employment based on race/religion, but I've never found anything regarding not providing services.
Hell, I think every McDonalds has a sign that says they reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.
e: nevermind, Title II of the Civil Rights Act says it's illegal:

Nah, they can't purposefully poison people, murder or discriminate among other things. That whole civil rights things changed that. You might of missed it.

You cant discriminate based on race/ethnicity..Now if you don't have on shoes, that's a different story.

No need for the smartass answer, I believe it was a legitimate question. Of course I wasn't referring to murder or poisoning people. I was under the impression (having never been informed by anyone else nor been interested enough to look for myself) that civil rights was mostly about PUBLIC things, such as ending the Jim Crow crap and desegregation of schools.. GOVERNMENT functions, in other words. (of course this is keeping in mind that I AM aware of sit-ins at white-only lunch counters and segregated water fountains and stuff)
I've never been in an establishment that's openly discriminated anyone, but there are always "right to refuse service to anyone" signs somewhere in town, and I've been in certain places where I've felt.. not "unwelcome" per se, but just really strange because of my skin tone.
Pauls position is that it SHOULD be legal to allow whoever you wanted into a property you own, a business you own, and that the federal government has no right to impeed upon your rights by demanding you service people you dont wish to service.
