Liberals tolerate blacks and they endure conservatives. But they cannot abide a successful, independent-minded black who dares to step out of line and reject the enslavement of the Plantation Party.
There is no class of people more openly loathed around here than black conservatives. Truly, it is the Mark of Cain among the liberal intelligentsia who dominate the press and corridors of power.
It is because black conservatives — like all conservatives — reject the pact Democratic Party bosses have made with black voters. That pact is governed by two overriding commandments.
First, you shall always be dependent upon the government. Second, never shall you be encouraged to take risks or venture far enough away from the government to be independent and successful. You will forever be enveloped — or entangled — in a government safety net.
The only openly tolerated hatred seen in America today is towards the black conservative. It is downright scary the venom sprayed at a free-thinking American of African descent today. Shameful.

Unfortunately for Conservatives, blacks have a long memory. They know it wasn't Progressives, Liberals, Socialists, or Communists who were stringing them up in trees not so long ago.
Re the question raised by the article, I think Americans will elect ANYONE who is able to convince us that he/she has a half-way decent plan to get us back on track.

Actually, it was some of both.
Black people do not need a long memory when the left blames the right daily for past injustices.

When you compare the tea partiers to OWS you can see which ones were the descendants and flame-holders of the old lynch mobbers.
Which group yelled "kill him!" at a rally when Obama's name was brought up?
Which group burst into applause at the mention of 234 executed people in Texas?
Which group yelled "YEAH!" when the prospect of an uninsured person dying was brought up during a debate?
It's not difficult. If they were democratic hangmen, they were quick to switch the republican party when the D's became champions of civil rights.
Faulty premise...it implies we already have one black "leader"
I totally agree!
It will take decades to repair what the first one did so why make the same mistake twice? He wants to give health care to his buddies but my rates have gone way, way up to pay for them. Enough is enough! Send him back to his Chicago "church" and wake up.
I also have to wonder whether his "jobs bill" will stop corporations from giving high paid jobs in the U.S. to non-citizens? Americans are much more than ditch-diggers.

Yes, and that's why they used to call it "The Solid South". The whole menu of positions changed in the 1960s, during the time leading up to the passage of the landmark civil rights bill. The Southern Democrats stonewalled the process shamelessly.
The rest of the country took a long, hard look at where we were, and the bill passed. The Southerners (well, the hard-liners, at least) were so ticked-off that they flipped and went over to the Republican side. That hadn't previously happened since the end of the Civil War.
And, that's the condensed version of how we got to where we are today.
