"When Perry accused Romney of writing in his book that he wanted Massachusetts' health-care mandate to be a model for the country, Romney said he was wrong. "Ten-thousand-dollar bet?"

Perry didn't take the bet, and the Romney campaign says the reason he didn't is because independent fact-checkers -- like the Washington Post -- say that Perry is wrong.

But it was the size of the bet Romney offered -- not the substance of the argument -- that triggered post-debate attacks from Romney's GOP rivals."

First Read - Romney becomes focus of debate -- and not in a positive way

Man of the people? At least the 10K bet might make people forget the "corporations are people to" comment.

Romney is so out of touch with middle class Americans that he will never get elected.

I like Romney more than Gingrich. He might be wealthy but he seems to have more integrity, although I know he's a politician and his positions have moved all over the board.

I've liked Romney in the past, but the last couple of weeks have exposed a glaring weakness as to whether he can take any heat at all. He seems a bit thin-skinned.

This is not a new phenomena for Romney. He has a history of losing support once people get to know him.

"To [Thomas Whalen, a Boston University political science professor] Romney’s history of wearing thin on voters and his rough relationship with the press shed critical light on the Mitt meltdown on Fox News, and his reaction to the sudden ascent of Gingrich. His problem isn’t a new rival. His problem is himself.

“To know Mitt Romney is to dislike him,” said Whalen. “That is the moral of the story.”

This silly story just really didn't catch today like the media had hoped. I even heard liberal commentators saying how stupid it was to try and make a big deal of it.

Romney seems to have bettercharacter than Newt, and that's very important in a leader.
