Republican registration in so-called Purple States has jumped 5% since the 2008 election

The race for the White House will likely be decided in 12 battleground states - and
President Obama has some serious work to do to keep his job, a new poll finds.
The President’s support in the key “purple” states has slipped 4 percentage points since 2008, according to a USA Today/Gallup survey.
Meanwhile, the number of registered Republicans in those same swing states have swelled by 5 points - giving GOP frontrunners
Newt Gingrich and
Mitt Romney leads over Obama.
