The Republican mayor of Miami raked the contenders over the coals on a Sunday nationwide interview. He leaned more on Newt than anyone. I guess it did make a difference.
Actually, the problem was more related to the early voting that was started before the SC primary. That certainly didn't help and yes, there were a few other things like Newt hurting himself.
I suggest you listen to what Newt said, in context. Much of what has been reported is a bald faced lie, and bears no resemblence to what he actually said.
But go ahead. Participate in the spreading of lies. That is sin. Oh... but wait... you are probably one that does not believe in sin. Right? Anything goes. Do unto thy neigbor before thy neighbor does unto you.
I doubt it helped, but Newt hurt Newt. I have see data that suggests the family values aspect hurt Newt with hispanics.
I agree. And not just with Hispanics, either. Look how poorly Newt did with females. It was a case of his shabby past finally catching up with him.
Newts ex's interview didn't have any negative impact in SC, maybe because it came out late, and was so blatantly intended to be a last-minute car-bomb. But Florida GOP voters had a chance to give Newt's past a good look, and went "Blechhh!"
Maybe a little, but truth be told, he took a beating with the women's vote more than anywhere else. The truly surprising thing to me is that nobody has bothered connecting the dots yet. Serial adulterer + second wife came out with the open marriage offer story + women are less likely to trust a man who cheats on wives with such regularity + Newt's pretty damn ugly and Romney is (according to my wife) the best looking candidate currently in the running = Newt will consistently do poorly among all women voters.
The Hispanic voters favored Romney as well, but the difference was not nearly as significant as the women's vote was since women's vote is 50% of the vote, while the Hispanic vote was only 14%. Romney won the women's vote 52% to 26% for Gingrich.
