The LAT reports the "Anybody but Obama" mantra may be losing steam in swing-state Colorado. Independent voters have had a good look at Romney... and decided Obama's not so bad after all.

"The Romney Effect" strikes again!

It's like some predicted - all those polls showing Generic Republican leading Obama would change in Obama's favor once Anyone became Someone.

Holy cats, that's a graphic graph! No wonder Romney wanted to bum-rush the nominating process. He hoped that, by the time the GOP realized he stinks, it would be too late for them to do anything about it.

There is a new WAPO/ABC News poll out today that backs that up. Respondents said, the more they know about Romney, the less they like him, by a 2x1 margin.

I'm not convinced that's going to help. Romney does an excellent job of sticking his foot in his mouth all by himself.

That's to say nothing of his record of not standing for anything. He comes off as a completely unprincipled phony, and that's not going to play well.

In all fairness to Romney a lot of that he can't help, considering his privileged background. He's always going to be off-putting to a large segment of the population, and there's not much he can do as far as taking a populist angle. He doesn't help his case when he uses the jealousy defense against criticism of his privilege.

It's funny that Obama was considered the elitist candidate last time, and Clinton in the primaries did everything she could to play up her own more modest background, such as it was. Since the post-civil rights era realignment the Republicans have had the populism game on lock, and this would've been the best year to take advantage of it given the economy and all, but they really blew it by picking a guy who plays completely opposite their best strength.
