And just wait, we don't see evidence of it too much yet, but within the next decade it's going to become very apparent which countries spent time and money in alternative energy development and which ones didn't, and we're going to be in that latter group if we don't start now. It may seem like no big deal at the moment, but it will have a detrimental impact on our ability to compete on a global scale in the future against countries who are years ahead of us.

The GOP truly is regressive in all things, be it green energy, gay marriage or women's rights. They would be so much happier living in the 1950s. Too bad we can't transport them all back--that would make everyone happier. Where is the TARDIS when you need it?
Why not have the best of both worlds? Have the race relations of the 80's and 90's, the gay rights of today, the womens rights of the 80's and 90's and the overall vibe, culture and economy of the 50's?

Any way you slice it, this country is in terrible shape because some people are trying to change EVERYTHING.... so far nothing is better, except gay rights

Republicans so are so regressive....merit pay instead of the Democrat-Union teahcers get pay based on years worked.....

Republicans favor school of choice that the poor want, Democrats oppose it, yet Democrat-Unions favor strong tenure so its hard to fire teachers. Democrat-Unions favor teacher's unions having monopolies with the health insurance providers that they own so they can overcharge the government 30% above fair market price.

There you go again. Unions, the all purpose boogyman Republicans trot out in answer to everything. I thank God for unions every day. Because of them, I have 40 hour work weeks, safe working conditions, overtime pay and week-ends off.

But thank you--you have proved my point about the GOP being a regressive party. By all means, feel free to go back to life before unions.

The unions, especially the PSEUs that suck off the taxpayer, are all about making sure they keep their sweetheart deals and lavish pensions and benefits.

They no longer represent middle class, working people (these are the people they are fleecing), they are only interested in retaining power and influence.

Who negotiated those contracts with the public unions? And yes, they do want to keep their pensions and benefits--they've worked for them, why shouldn't they? How selfish of them to expect to have the benefits they worked for and were promised!

There is only one reason Republicans are going after the unions, and that's that they vote for Democrats. At least be honest in your diatribes against unions.

Why, the very same people the unions give political contributions to. If that's not the most corrupt and incestuous relationship in politics, I don't know what is.

Wow, so you're saying that for the 50+ years that there have been public service unions, only Democrats have ever been in positions of power in local governments across the entire country; only Democrats have negotiated contracts with these unions? I had no idea. Of course you have some kind of citation for that claim, right?

And note, they are called negotiations--meaning that each side gives and takes to reach an agreement. Often what the union members give is salary in exchange for benefits. Either way, they negotiated for their benefits in good faith. They fulfilled their part of the bargain. Why shouldn't they receive the benefits they worked for?
