I was taught the last time battle ships were used was in a bombardment in the Lebanese civil war. I thought most of the ones we have are museums.
There are eight left. All have been retired. USS New Jersey was used during the Vietnam war. The last ones, USS Wisconsin and USS Missouri, were decommissioned in 1991 and 1992.
More proof that GOP supporters aren't very well informed people. Please look at the US Navy's inventory of ships and tell me how many battleships we have in active service?
Why can't Republicans just admit that Romney is DEAD WRONG in saying the US Navy needs more ships when the ones we have now are so technologically advanced (and keep in mind EXPENSIVE) that we can do MORE WITH LESS? Is this really that difficult to understand??
Once again liberals ignoring the meaning of the content, and worried about each word, just like they have since Clinton uttered that famous line "I did not have sex with that woman".
That's ok, I have never been nor will I ever be engages in any kind of control of the military, and while I may not get the exact wording of what they call battleships correct, I can tell you that I did not insult the military half as much as the commander in chief did tonight.
First of all, Governor Romney talks about small businesses, but Governor, when you were in Massachusetts, small businesses' development ranked about 48, I think, out of 50 states, in Massachusetts, because the policies that you're promoting actually don't help small businesses.
Romney did not respond or defend himself on this critical point.
What's especially funny about 0bama's massive screwup about the bayonets is that he prefaced his stupid remark by accusing Romney of not knowing much about the military.
Of course it is insulting to the Navy, and everybody else in the military, especially since they still use bayonets and Obama had no clue.
I would expect that the average Naval Officer and seaman is intelligent enough to understand that Obama's point was about technological advances that render Romney's comparisons with the number of ships that formed the 1916 Navy to today's aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines utterly irrelevant.
You are grasping at straws. His show "The O'Reilly Factor" has been the #1 cable news show for 12 years.
His live shows are a "side job."
Again, read up on the degrees he earned.
So because it is called a "cable new show" it must be true?
The Daily Show calls itself "the Best F#@king News Team," does that make them a news team cause they call themselves a news team?
Being the number one show for 12 years means O'Reilly has made a lot of money as an entertainer and that is cool for him, he is a very, very rich man because of it.
Obama: "But I think Governor Romney maybe hasn't spent enough time looking at how our military works. You — you mentioned the Navy, for example, and that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. Well, Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets — (laughter) — because the nature of our military's changed. We have these things called aircraft carriers where planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear " submarines.
These are the kinds of comments that appeal to his base.... "I'm smart and you're stupid." Talking down to others, feeling better than others. Smugness. Translates into an inability and lack of desire to work across the aisle and in a bipartisan manner. Part of why we're in the mess we are in.
He sees his grasp on power slipping away. He will be just another one term ex-president.
I'm doing my part to see to that.
