Obama is in the weakest position for an incumbent since 1992. He ahs fallen a long way.
Agreed. It is close. Obama has almost the same challenge as GHW Bush. He has actually been a pretty level headed executive, like Bush, who has had to deal with a tough economic hand. I do think the economy is gaining strength, but there is no doubt that the weak economy, deficit,etc. are a heavy load to carry into reelection. If he were up against someone like Clinton, he would be toast. But that is not the case. Obama is more charismatic and well-liked than Bush was, and Romney is no Clinton. Otherwise, it is very similar.
What worries me is that the economy is primed to recover. If Romney wins, there will be a false perception that his ideas are responsible. That would not necessarily be the case. The article at the link below makes the case that a good share of the success under Clinton had its roots in GHW's efforts, but they took a while to play out.
