On a lighter note, I read that, at the age of 86, former 2 time Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards is running for Congress. When I think of Edwards, I remember the Louisiana Governor's Race in the early '90's. (I think it was 1991). Louisiana has that jungle primary system where regardless of party, all candidates run against each other and the top 2 finishers face off in November. The incumbent Governor, Buddy Roemer, finished third and was eliminated. Ethically challenged former Governor Edwards and former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke were the top 2 finishers. There were actually bumper stickers printed boosting Edwards that said, "Vote For The Crook- It's Important!"

Deejay Garry Burbank did a hilarious parody on Cincinnati radio that supposedly had an old Cajun calling in to express his despair over having to make that choice. To the tune of Hank Williams' "Jambalaya" he warbled lyrics that went something like this.

Ku Klux Klan, Flim-Flam man, our two evils
Like having to choose between the locusts or boll weevils
Whoever wins, move my kin to Ohio
Who da heck we gonna elect on the Bayou?

Our former governor, he make love and like to gamble
Doing graft is his craft, he make a scandal
Huey Long, Dead and Gone, me oh my oh
Let's Ressurect him and re-elect him on the Bayou

David Duke, makes me puke scares a nation
If elected, would he bring back segregation?
Nazi yes, just a Nazi, me oh my oh
Who da heck we gonna elect on the Bayou?

Who da heck we gonna elect on the Bayou?

For the record, both candidates ended up doing time in Federal Prison.
So the next time you complain about your choices on a ballot and claim that it couldn't get worse, remember.

Yes it could.

I remember it well. Very entertaining election! Even then-President George H. W. Bush felt compelled to announce that he would support Democrat Edwin Edwards over Duke.
