This one is gonna be interesting. I support Goodluck Jonathan for secular reasons, but Buhari is an ex military general. He might be more competent in fighting Boko Haram.

I am following the Nigerian elections, but the vast majority of Americans will not, as is the case with every foreign election unless it's either (a) being done under the auspices of U.S. troops or (b) in Israel.

John Oliver's show had a great piece on the 2014 Indian elections, and how the U.S. media didn't give a s*** except for that public affairs debate show The McLaughlin Group, where the main host was saying, "What do we care about India for, huh? They're not even in our hemisphere!" I feel that the exact same things will be said in the U.S. media about the Nigerian elections.

Funny you say that. Canadians follow our elections, but most Americans don't even know the name of the Canadian president(or prime minister?) lol

I am, since the outcome could make me rich. A gentleman in Nigeria has promised me a large sum of money if I help him move a larger amount of money out of his country to ours. That reminds me, I must provide him my bank account number for this purpose.

I will note that these other African countries are having elections this year: Tanzania, Togo, Sudan, South Sudan, Chad, Egypt, and Zambia. I see that Haiti is having a presidential election in August.

I, too, fear that most Americans will not closely follow these elections. I pity them, in my superior way.

Gen. Buhari won the election by 2 million votes sweeping the Muslim North, Lagos and the Yoruba states. Jonathan carried the Eastern states, the Niger Delta and some of the states along the Benue and Niger Rivers. Two hours after the results were announced. Jonathan conceded the election and called Buhari to congratulate him and wish him all the best.
Celebrations are taking place in Lagos, Ibadan, Kano and Kaduna.
