I liked him too, behind Paul.

I think a lot of Thompson's supporters will back McCain - what do y'all think?

Yep....McCain is strong on the war and that seems to be THE issue to a lot of Thompson supporters.

Funny thing is McCain is anti-gun but that seems to matter little, even on gun forums...

An overrated actor with the personality of driftwood. He had no fire in his belly so why did he bother to run?

My affinity for Thompson had more to do with his small-gov't/federalist philosophy. I saw him as a more socially conservative, mainstream GOP version of Paul.

Generally speaking, though, I think Americans are tired of southern politicians. I don't think we'll see a southern president under any circumstances.

If they really want a Reagan like candidate, they should support Ron Paul. Their biggest concern is the war, which I see as them being wrong on. Paul is very pro-gun.

I agree completely. I'm glad to see him out.

Unfortunately he did serve his purpose for the Republican Machine which was in part to push Ron Paul into obscurity by taking his votes, taking air time in the debates, taking money from campaign donors, and taking Ron Paul's place in the Fox News debates.

Unfortunately Guiliani is still running and accomplishing the same. Once Guiliani is out I'll feel better about the Republican candidate field overall.
