I just suddenly hit me about The Donald: in a way he reminds me of Reagan, Clinton and even Obama in that he has the ability to "rile" people up, good and bad.

Their unfettered support has fueled Trump's rise in Republican primary polls and kept him in the top spot for months. No controversy appears to faze them out of the many Trump has endured — from controversial comments over immigration, to the McCain comments, to a bitter, lingering feud with Fox News and host Megyn Kelly.

Reagan and Clinton were always careful in choice of words. Trump is not.

Trump mined me of Teddy Roosevelt, who was not always careful with choice of words.

I don't see how anyone could read the speeches of Teddy Roosevelt and be reminded of the stream of consciousness meandering of Donald Trump. Both have aggressive personalities, but that's about where the similarities end. Even with limiting the comparison to just simple force of will, I'll believe that Donald is in TR's class when he stubbornly finishes a speech after being shot.

That may be a good comparison. And Teddy ran as an independent in 1912, splitting the GOP vote, resulting in the election of Woodrow Wilson (D, NJ) as President.

Wilson. our only PhD prez, and a persuaded progressive, proceeded to:

•pass the 16th amendment and begin the federal income tax
•started the war on drugs (Harrison act of 1914)
•led us into WWI and arguably invented the concept of America as world police.
•segregated the federal workforce and military based on the eugenics claptrap in vogue at the time
•presided over the genesis of the modern nanny state generally, although he did oppose prohibition

CNN compared him to Reagan as they showed a clip of that yesterday right after the journalist was kicked out and later let back in which CNN stated was Trumps Reagan moment which looked pretty similar.

Like shooting elephants. Can you imagine if Teddy ran for president in 2015?
