It sort of reminds me of the Bush family propensity to wear jackets embroidered with their name and office held. Not sure if it comes from fear of not being recognized or that it was a habit born of claiming their coats from lost and found after misplacing them in grade school.

If it's a strategy, I give him a lot more credit.

From my perspective (I posted this on another thread earlier today), he does not "seem like" a "Bush." He doesn't seem like part of that family somehow. There's a disconnect, and I can't quite put my finger on it, but even as he draws the brood near, which CAN'T be good for him, it doesn't make me dislike him less. I'm still in neutral with him, perhaps because he's still stuck in neutral!
