We should certainly kill terrorists that are trying to kill us. We should actually do what we can to capture them and interrogate them in order to get actionable intelligence. Almost unbelievably, our current president puts the left's political correctness ahead of our national security, and therefore is basically opposed to capturing and interrogating terrorists
So, what sort of approach would Donald Trump support? He spoke to that at a rally last night in South Carolina last night.
After discussing the barbarism of ISIS and his belief that the United States needs to use tactics much worse than waterboarding, Trump told an almost certainly false story about General Pershing's execution Muslim terrorists in the Phillippines.
"I read a story, it's a terrible story, but I'll tell you," Trump said. "Early in the century, last century, General Pershing--did you ever hear--rough guy, rough guy. And they had a terrorism problem. And there's a whole thing with swine and animals and pigs, and you know the story. They don't like that. They were having a tremendous problem with terrorism." After Pershing caught 50 terrorists, "he took 50 bullets, and he dipped them in pig's blood," Trump said. "And he had his men load his rifles and he lined up the 50 people, and they shot 49 of those people. And the 50th person, he said, 'You go back to your people and you tell them what happened.' And for 25 years there wasn't a problem, okay?"
"We better start getting tough and we better start getting vigilant, and we better start using our heads or we're not gonna have a country, folks," Trump added.
Trump is pretty clearly putting this forward as an example of how to handle these sorts of problems. Is he actually going to try to do this as President? If not, then why is he talking about it as if it is a clearly heroic action?
On top of it all, it sounds like this story about Pershing is very likely fabricated, as Donald Trump almost surely knows. I have been reluctant to characterize Donald Trump as a bigot for his campaign comments about how he would like to temporarily block all Muslim refugees from entering this country until the vetting process can be determined to be effective. However, this current suggestion is disgusting and antagonistic towards Muslims in such an openly hostile and intentionally antagonistic fashion towards these people specifically based on their religious beliefs, that I am now becoming increasingly concerned that he may be just that.
Once again, I have no problem capturing and interrogating terrorists and using tactics like waterboarding if there is time-sensitive actionable information that is imminently needed in order to stop a terrorist attack. But what is this with the "bullets dipped in pigs blood" nonsense targeted specifically towards Muslims? Is that really necessary or desirable here?
Is there anyone who supports Donald Trump who is willing to try to provide an thoughtful defense of this kind of behavior him?
If you lack the intellect to spot an obviously fake story from 20 miles away, you probably shouldn't run for President. If you're dumb enough repeat the fake story to a crowd of people, thinking its real, you definitely shouldn't run.
Trump is an absolute farce.
This lunatic would have boots on the ground within 6 months of taking office. I don't know where the idea came from that he's some sort of peacenik relative to the other candidates, but he's not.
It never happened--it's an internet rumor/hoax, which is where Trump gets most of his simplistic stories. But he gets his political theory from the Nazis.
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” ~ Joseph Geobbels
"In the primitive simplicity of their minds, they will more easily fall victim to a large lie than a small lie, since they sometimes tell petty lies themselves, but would be ashamed to tell a lie that was too big. They would never consider telling a lie of such magnitude themselves, or knowing that it would require such impudence, they would not consider it possible for it to be told by others. Even after being enlightened and shown that the lie is a lie, they will continue to doubt and waver for a long time and will still believe there must be some truth behind it somewhere, and there must be some other explanation. For this reason, some part of the most bold and brazen lie is sure to stick. This is a fact that all the great liars and liars’ societies in this world know only too well and use regularly.” ~ Adolph Hitler

I disagree. He's a coward who talks a big game. He avoided Vietnam service four times and finally got a medical for something like shin splints or warts on his feet.

He presented this story to the crowd as an example of a heroic solution to deterring Islamic terrorism. It sounds like he believes we should do this.

Let's see. Clinton, Bush & Obama have been playing "nice" with the Terrorists for close to 24 years. Yet they are more of a threat than ever, we've seen the rise of ISIS under Obama, and now attacks right here in the USA.
Time to do something different.
