Trump says

Quote:
Early in his quest for the Republican nomination for president, Donald Trump promised major H-1B reforms. But Thursday night, at a debate in Detroit with his fellow Republican candidates, Trump said he was "softening" his position.

The move created an instant mess for Trump. So early this morning, his campaign issued a statement condemning the H-1B program and stressed the need to "hire Americans first."

To me, it seemed like he was softening his stance on letting in some educated people. H1-Bs are at best mediocre and at worst, downright incompetent. That visa program has become corrupted and needs to be abolished. Basically, he clarified his position.

H1B people are educated techies. They have college degrees. So he's basically supporting the existing H1B program which imports educated people as temporary workers. They typically stay 3 years and then can get a 3 year extension. Many of them apply for a green card and stay permanently.

I know all about the program.

Not all of them are "educated techies". My husband, in the past, often had to clean up messes that H1-Bs had made. He stopped posting in tech forums because a lot of the posters were H1-Bs who were asking basic questions that they should have known how to do. Others caught on to this and would respond "RTFM". There has been a lot of resume fraud in that program. As I said it's now a severely corrupt visa program that needs to be abolished. Period.

Trump clarified his statement to say that he doesn't support the H1-B program.

In addition, this program is a recipe for modern day slavery in America. Exploitation of these workers is terrible. They have complete power over them.

If he doesn't support H1B program, why has he been hiring and sponsoring H1B workers in his many businesses for the past 10 years?

He didn't hire H1-Bs. He hired guest workers, which is an H2 visa.
