I think the 'little Marco' works well for Mr. Trump on several levels.

One, Mr. Trump is probably aware that, historically, the 'taller' of the presidential candidates tend to win the election.

Second, many people are aware of the so-called "Napoleonic Complex", i.e., the theory that people of shorter stature tend to be more aggressive (or become jockeys).

Third, it is a form of belittlement common in grade school, which would appeal to many of Trump's Trumpets.

I never did think calling JEB! 'low energy' was effective.

I guess the "reality" is that Obama has reduced our nation to being the laughing stock of the world in most regards thanks to the public voting him in TWICE. I don't think the rhetoric of this election has done much more damage, even though the media is trying as hard as they can.

Boy again, we agree. I don't care who is doing the name calling, whether candidates, people on CD or anywhere else. What must the rest of the world think about people who might end up leading our country and what do they think of childish people who see nothing wrong with playground behavior.

Agree with all of that, and then a few more. It also evokes the image of the angry little tyrant, i.e. the "Napoleon Complex" and reminds people that Marco probably WAS picked on in High School and while that might attract leftist young Emo's to his camp, it also creates division with the Alphas that see themselves as winners and want to back a winner, and not a loser. Trump hates losers, and Marco has "LOSER" written all over his face.

Also the "Gay Foam" has secret, insidious TRACTION, and so the connotational load of "Little Marco" has secondary (and highly toxic) amounts of perversion. And didn't Trump bait Marco into making a crack about Trump's "private part"? Unforgivable. America loves a good food fight (aka "WWF Wrestling") but abhors and despises a pervert, so anything explicitly sexual and wrong that can be made to stick to a politician (Weiner's cell phone pic) is a highly toxic injection of Strontium 90. He's already dead, and doesn't know it yet.

For Theme and Variation, if I were Trump's Campaign Manager, I would advocate continued use of "Little Marco", with variations to include "Little Whiny Marco" and "Whiny Little Marco" and the explicit and grandiose title "Marco the Whiner" (which will appeal to the gaming and dungeons and dragons, Game of Thrones crowd), because he DOES whine. His passionate, excited public demeanor has a heavy dose of "effeminate" (a better word starts with a "b").

Finally, I do think he's gay, and I think most americans do too, on a visceral level. And, it's not his "gayness" that's the issue, it's the secreted "closeted" nature of that gayness that americans find so offensive. "What ELSE is he hiding?" is the visceral, and yet undeniable response. (Which is EXACTLY the reason why Hillary will lose to anyone that runs against her, even the Dog Catcher). Remember how you thought about Rock Hudson, before he was known to be gay, and how that compares to how you felt about him after you found out the truth? I'm talking about THAT, right there. That sense of betrayal; like you thought you knew who someone was, and then it turns out you were completely wrong. No one likes to feel like they've been lied to, and manipulated into believing a lie, because it makes them feel stupid, and foolish.

Who votes for a Leader that makes them feel stupid, and foolish?

People can argue whether he actually is (gay) or not, and whether or not he actually was or not all day long. That's not the point. The point is that it WORKED in terms of changing people's perceptions. My opinion is, no straight man ever got naked in a gay foam party, ever, in the entire history of gay foam parties, and also once you've crossed that line, you don't ever go back, internally, in terms of who you are, but also outside, in terms of how other people perceive you, most particularly for the highest office in the country.

It is demoralizing how this con artist has hijacked the process by appealing to anger, immaturity, and fear. He took down the best candidate, Rick Perry, claiming he was dumb and wearing glasses to look smart, then Bush with the low energy label, and now this little Marco nonesense. It infuriates me how this crap has caught on and it has made campaigning against Trump a nightmare.

With Trump, I don't see it so much as childish, as much as just not respecting politicians. Look at where they have taken this country. They don't deserve respect.

Also, he is a counter puncher. This shows he's not another pacifist who would bow to tyrants and apologize to other countries on our behalf. Other countries we give billions of dollars to on the backs of working Americans.

Agree in part. It worked in some respects, but also underlined a more positive "cool as a cucumber" aspect of his identity. Not getting "rattled" when you are President is a good thing. Also resonates with the "Duck Theory" which most Americans know who have worked in the Service Industry. The "Duck" might look calm and serene on the surface, but underneath the water he is paddling his a** off. So, calling Jeb! "low-energy" accentuates Trumps high energy, but also made Jeb! look a bit more Statesman-like.

However, the "!" exclamation mark was the kiss of death, IMO. Yahoo!

Q: How do we make this boring guy look more exciting, while simultaneously appearing to separate him from his last name (while taking full advantage of the family's political dynasty).

A: Hey! I know! Let's put an EXCLAMATION MARK next to his name, making it Jeb! instead of "Jeb? Who the f*** is "Jeb?". We never heard of this "Jeb" before. Isn't he somehow related to the Bush family?"

Americans are suckers and rubes, and the worst thing you can do is allow them to know that's what you think they are. Jeb! was an obvious, stupidly obvious attempt at distancing Jeb Bush from George Bush, and the class of wealthy establishment Republicans that have been lying to the American Public about their conservative status for decades. It was doomed to fail, and they did it anyways, which further telegraphed the establishment's single-minded desire to stop Trump, even back then.

I sincerely hope Trump wins, because I don't see this movement slowing down, or stopping, even if they don't have a simple majority in the Republican Party. They have guns.

I think the 'low energy' comment was crippling. It was spot on early in the race and he never recovered from that.

Marco on the other hand, took some pretty solid jabs at Trump, and continued to deliver counter punch even after being called "lil Marco."

"Low energy" - from a guy who rode a down escalator to his own campaign announcement.
