The Obama economy has left their finances in tatters.

This has nothing to do with Obama leaving anyone's finances in tatters.

Per that article, it's $569/night(before taxes/fees) for a hotel, requiring 5 night minimum stay puts the hotel alone at ~$3000. Then they want $200 for one breakfast meeting. This doesn't count other meals or airfare/car. The one week trip to the convention is likely going to cost most delegates approx $5000.00 out of their own pocket. Lots of these people are regular everyday middle class Americans taking 1 week vacation from their job.

I found the below link that says there are 26 different hotels - as each state's delegate group has selected different hotels. Hopefully some of these hotels are cheaper. The top link for the $569/nt hotel appear to be for California delegates.

Hopefully there is a much cheaper group rate pre-negotiated at the hotels.

Here are the hotel assignments by states:

Below article talks about young adult's costs and how they are trying to raise funds to attend:

State delegations get hotel assignments for DNC
LOL at the OP. He probably had no idea of how expensive this is--and truly, many, many ordinary Americans would find those kinds of costs for a four day trip prohibitive.

But judging from the OP's posting history, anything he can possibly twist into a bash on the president is good enough for the him, no matter how preposterous.

Thanks, sware2cod, for debunking the OP in the very first response.

It's always been this way. Those delegates caught by surprise didn't do their homework.

In the 3 different counties I've lived in as an active Dem, we hold fundraisers to help pay their way when one of our locals is selected to attend the national convention. We also have ongoing small fundraisers to pay state convention expenses.

The Sanders supporters could have done the same for theirs. There's still time for them to do so, they can also hold fundraisers after the convention if they truly care about their delegates. Of course organizing bake sales and 5K's isn't as much fun as protests.

Normal procedure is for the DNC and RNC to select the hotels, negotiate the group rates, and then assign them to the state delegations. There are practical reasons for this. The NC's have more clout and are able to better negotiate rates, and coordinate logistics for events, transportation, etc.

Traditionally in both the DNC and the RNC, the winning candidates' delegates are assigned to the hotels closest to the convention site. Bonus points given if the state voted blue in the last general election. At the DNC, CA and NY probably have the plum hotels. OK, KS, MT, et al delegates will be assigned hotels way out in the boonies. Yes those hotels will be cheaper but all lodging during the convention is a hot ticket so there will be no bargains.

Sponsorship of the convention is down and many decided before a nominee was in sight: Major companies decline to fund 2016 GOP convention | TheHill Some are trying to say it was about Trump rather than admit that they hadn't plan to give as much support, probably embarrassed not to be doing well.

As we know, the economy has been on a nose dive so why wouldn't expenses for individuals be in the same position.

What's wrong with Motel 6? Or, up it to Motel 8. Geesh, we have homeless people sleeping on the street!

Are you for the Trans-Pacific Partnership like your party is?

They knew when they signed up to be delegates it was coming out of their own pockets. Some folks have known each other for years through their counties, etc and double up. Most who have no deep pockets have fundraisers.

BTW, most of us are better off now than when GWB left office. I live on dividends, so the market and the economy are great as far as I am concerned. Now, if the fed would just raise the interest rate a tad. The low interest rate home loans are being subsidized by seniors at about what our kids are paying for our SS checks. It all evens out.

Umm if you don't have enough money why the hell did you run for delegates?

Good thing Philadelphia is not too far from many major population centers!
