He never should have called her those names, but to be honest at the debate he could have moved right past it if he had admitted it and said that he had remorse for the way he acted, that is all it would have taken. Had he done that rather than react like a 9 year old no one would have talked about it again, that's how Reagan used to handle situations like that; own it, admit you screwed up and it takes the power out of it and you can move on.

Yup. He was handed a golden opportunity to make Clinton look foolish and passed it right up. Not only that, but upon reflection, he's continued to obsess over it, digging himself in deeper.
He keeps telling us what great genes he's got (BTW, anyone else think he's a eugenicist?) and how very smart he is. If he's so smart, why didn't he see this for the opportunity it was? And further, it's clear to me that Clinton knew he would react like this, and that's why she brought Machado up - she didn't need to tell the Machado story to make her point. However smart he is - she's a damn sight smarter.
