House Republican candidates garnered 3 million more votes than House Democrats. Plus the Republicans hold roughly 2/3ds of all governorships and full control of the legislature in at least 28 states. So no, the results are not merely attributable to gerrymandering.
For all the talk a week ago about how the GOP is dead, it's really the Democrat party that's in shambles right now.
Yes, the notion that the (D) party was thriving was a lie and also there was a misrepresentation of reality by virtue of the fact that Obama won both times, with very solid EC (and popular vote) margins. A lot of that is the media myth that he was new and a great guy. Being frank, my sense is a lot of Obama's support (both at the ballot box and in the approval numbers) is white guilt/reluctance to be viewed as racist for opposing Obama. Because of this, there is a disconnect between Obama's popularity as an individual and the popularity of his policies as well as the overall strength of the (D) party.
In addition, Obama is far better socially and in terms of charisma than Clinton. Even staunch Obama opponents like myself can admit that he can be slick socially and might be a decent guy to shoot the stuff or have a beer with. The same cannot be said for Mrs. Clinton, whose social skills are so bad she realized it at a young age and married someone far more charismatic than her.
The blue states have to provide welfare for the red states because they can't support themselves on their own. People in the red states don't value education to the same degree and either can't or won't adapt to the changing economic realities. They cling to the past to their own detriment.
Democrats rely on welfare voters to win; that's how they are even able to compete.
Exactly what? No one said California should decide the outcome of the election, the point is that she already leads in the popular vote and with uncounted votes, many of which are from California her popular vote lead will increase considerably.
