Part of having a ground game is that it is what gets people registered, and helps them get to the polls to vote. but to answer your question - no, I've always been part of the ground game, making the calls and giving the rides.
The democrats work hard to get their people out for early voting, and then the Republicans get better turnout on election day.
Hillary's early voting numbers just aren't what Obama was getting, and with how close the swing states are, her early voting numbers are likely not enough.
Me personally, no. Some of the people I've driven to polling locations, yes. They had no other way of getting there and wouldn't have been able to vote without the ground game that I was a part of.
Does canvassing and phone banking get people to vote? I have to assume it does, because the campaigns have very sophisticated polling and I think they would not waste their time and money if they weren't getting a good ROI. I haven't seen the numbers since I've only been a volunteer and not someone in a position of any authority in a campaign, but I believe the info is there to support it.
