You obviously don't know Cubans that well. They are liberal on Social issues.
Perhaps you should ask one.

She represents a heavily Hispanic (especially Cuban) district in the Miami area that was once strongly Republican, but has trended increasingly Democratic. There were only handful of seats that trended more against Trump than FL-27. Clinton defeated Trump in the district 58.6-38.9. There is no other Congressional District in the country in which Trump lost by a greater margin that is currently held by a Republican.
She didn't represent me in the Miami area but she was a horrible Congresswoman and glad she won't seek re-election. Her main focus was about relations with Cuba and Castro while ignoring a lot of issues concerning Miami.
The older Cubans who elected her over 2 decades ago are dying out and the younger Cuban Americans who are into their 3rd. & 4th. generations being Americans are more liberal.
President Obama won that demographic twice.
I did meet her years ago at a market and she was a cordial & polite lady but she had such a narrow focus that I sometimes wondered if she knew what country she was in.

Fact of the matter is a long term well entrenched Republican incumbent is retiring that represents a district that was once heavily Republican, but has trended heavily Democratic. It is a district that Trump lost by 20 points. Trump doing very poorly in this once Republican district combined with it being an open seat makes it very vulnerable for Republicans.
Drop in a bucket.

Dems getting the house back without declaring gerrymandering illegal aint gonna happen.

She is a little like those blue collar dems who held on an extra 15 years in the north or Blue Dog dems in the south. Her holding the district does not mean any Republican automatically can. And to run someone more conservative in a district hat went to HRC by 20 when she lost the state by 3 or so tends to make me think some posters are misreading the tea leaves on this one.

That said- it is nice to see a politician who actually feels there is more to life than continuing to stay in politics. Half of them have to be carted off...

The chances of the GOP holding an open Congressional seat Trump lost by 20 probably isn't thst strong

As Long as you can "pack" Rural black and City Democrats in the South, and "crack" them in the Northeast and west, then yes, there will be a problem.

But that is becoming less possible as Cities like Atlanta begin to grow in population and to spread out and States Like Michigan begin to lose seats to reapportionment.

The Democrats these days only represent those things which Cubans find rather repulsive. That's what the Democrats have limited themselves to.

You really shouldn't generalize like this.

That not a good, argument. you are saying Democrats have limited themselves to being repulsive to 0.0001% of the population. There are more people who hate Cubans than there are Cubans repulsed by Democrats.
