I think his religion had something to do with it, or he foresaw that it would impinge on things later down the road. Let's face it, Americans, for the most part, are not crazy about a religion in which polygamy existed within the last 100 years, the main temples (equivalent to cathedrals) cannot be visited by those not in good standing in the Mormom faith, and there is a ton of regimentation as to processes like going on a mission, what to wear and how soon one should marry. It's a handful, in my opinion...and I felt so fortunate to go to a 1-hour user-friendly no-tithing-necessary Easter service in a popular Christian denomination a couple of hours ago...just what the Lord would have ordered.

That being said, Romney (1) would not open his financial affairs for scrutiny, (2) he was a flip-flop to gain popular appeal but could later realign his position to fit his religious views, and (3) people didn't trust the "is this for real?" squeaky-clean 60-year-old version of a Ken doll, as someone said. I was relieved to hear women say they didn't trust him.

Because Americans can be so damn stupid, I, for one, was worried that his telegenic appearance would gain him more favor than he rightfully deserved. But, fortunately this did not happen, with a stalwart like McCain gaining prominence and someone less experienced but seemingly even-keeled (Huckabee) in second position. I "exhaled" the day Romney backed out.

I registered as a Republican in the 90s, but voted for Kerry in the last election. I pick the person I like the most and don't yet know who I will vote for.
thanks for saying what you said. i also was afraid that americans would vote for mittster b/c of his looks alone. i heard several ppl say that he "looked presidential", whatever that means. i don't like his religion and its rigid views on society. it's too much mixing of religion with government, which i am strongly against.

I liked Romney, and I actually liked Huckabee in somewhat. I'm now supporting Barack Obama, but I still think it's a shame the Republicans nominated McCain, when they had better candidates in Romney and Huckabee but didn't support them for some reason.

The last time I voted Republican was for Ronald Reagan. As a youth at that time, Reagan inspired me and made me feel proud to be and American, in much the same way Barack Obama is inspiring young people today. The Republicans have not had a candidate (or President) anywhere near Reagan's class since. Too bad.

Sorry, I haven't Googled it but... I remember very well someone asking him why none of his several great looking white teeth sons were serving in the military in the wars that he (Romney) was so supportive of. And he said that they were doing a better service in working in the Romney campaign.

...........

Is flip-flopping a Massachusetts trait? He sounded like Kerry whilst campaigning.

Was it his religion? Many democrats up here were considering voting for Romney since he seemed like the only one who would actually help us out of a one-state recession and he blew away all the competition on economic matters. If McCain picks him as VP, it will get McCain quite a few more votes from this area. Who thinks McCain will/should pick him?
Romney is a flip flopper. And he's a mormon. You think people are only caught up with Race in this country? It's looks like this country has a big issue with religion too.

Why should it have any bearing what his sons do for a living. His sons aren't running for President, he is. I know that my father didn't decide on my career for me, just like my kids will be free to pursue their own dreams.
