Looks like you got burned by that one. Obama and Hillary did actively campaign as being against Gay marriage. Hillary made no bones about it more than once on national TV for a very long time.
Neither of them campaigned on being against gay marriage, no Democrat has done that since the 80s.
What you mean to say is they were asked if they supported it, but both said no.
They both said they supported civil unions that gave gay people all the rights of married couples .
People voted for Trump/pence and pence does not like gay people.

Pointing to Trump and Pence does not help. Pence holds those beliefs now, not when he was young. One can not hold people to beliefs they held at age before they get out in the world like you can with people who have had a much larger experience but still say they are against equal rights for others.
