No, responsibility for this stunt falls 100% on the Republican activist who attempted to pay some one to claim he was assaulted by Buttigieg.
Republican smears go back at least to the Canuck letter on Ed Muskie way back in 1972.
I would bet 5% of the population knows what that is.
The Kavanaugh smear campaign is still fresh in the minds of at least 90% of the population. Since it almost worked, it’s logical to assume this “tool” will be used many times again in the near future.
