First, consider the source: The Huffington Post. Enough said? Secondly, even if what Hagel said was reported accurately that just demonstrates that Hagel is and always has been a wind bag. He accuses McCain of not being willing to engage in diplomacy with Iran. That's not what McCain said. Actually there has been ongoing low level "engagement" with Iran for quite some time. What McCain faulted Obama for was his naive, simplistic staement that, as president, he would talk to Ahmahdinejad without preconditions. That has never been the way diplomacy has been conducted in our nation's history. McCain pointed out that Obama is demonstrating how unready he is for primetime. Incidentally, Hillary made the same criticism of Obama.

What preconditions??? Iran has made it clear that they are not gonna give up their uranium enrichment - McCain's response, no talking to them. Look, it is 2008, this whole idea of pleasing US and meeting their conditions for talks even when these countries are not depending on a single dime from [us] is not gonna work. And not talking to them is certainly more dangerous.

So what's the point in talking to them if we know ahead of time that they have no intention of negotiating seriously? You're right, of course. Iran has already thumbed its nose at the international community on uranium enrichment. So how is it going to enhance the position of the U.S. and the president, whoever he might be, to be made a spectacle of by the likes of Ahmajinedad? That's what Obama fails to grasp.

I have to agree (even though I hope it's true). The Huffington Post is barely more reliable than the National Enquirer.

Obama never said he would talk to Ahmahdinejad.
