When is the last time a dem got the majortiy (over 50%) of the vote?

1976 when Jimmy Carter got 50.1%

Bottom line is there is not enough people voting dem unless there's a indy candidate

And who do you think Bob Barr and Ralph Nader are?

I think they already had their Perot.

He was an elf named Dennis Kucinich.

He claims he has actually seen aliens. I can't imagine why he's not running for President...

Well, according to some analysts, Ross Perot "took votes away" in roughly equal proportions from and encouraged new voters who would have voted roughly in equal proportions for the candidates of the two established parties (really the two heads of the same monster).

I think that the concrete impact of the Ross Perot campaign was the balancing of the budget in the years thereafter.

In order to achieve something similar now only fifteen or so years later, we need some one with Ross Perot's stature (in terms of money and power - even speaking ability, not height ) but with Ron Paul's ideas, at least his core ideas on sound money, small government, and balanced budgets.

As for Kucinich, though I would prefer a full-fledged free market, with an emphasis on price transparency, in health care, the single-payer system has some merit and is worthy of consideration. The worst is what we have: a confused hodgepodge, and current proposals would only exacerbate it.

2000 election:

George W. Bush Republican Texas 50,456,002 47.87%
Al Gore Democratic Tennessee 50,999,897 48.38%

Ralph Nader Green Connecticut 2,882,955 2.7%

Can a Republican candidate win without the advantage created through gerrymandering and the resultant tilting of the electoral college in their favor?

Can they win without challenging millions of voters based purely on their address?

"The administration team couldn’t tolerate appointees who wouldn’t go along with crime. In the book I present the evidence that Karl Rove directed a guy named Tim Griffin to target suppressing the votes of African American students, homeless men, and soldiers. Nice guy. They actually challenged the votes and successfully removed tens of thousands of legal voters from the voter rolls, same as they did in 2000. But instead of calling them felons, they said that they had suspect addresses."
Greg Palast, Author of Armed Madhouse, on How Rove May Have Already Stolen the 2008 Election (http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/node/2473/print - broken link)

Do you actually believe such garbage?

If some clueless voters would have been able to handle a punch card, maybe the result would have been different.

Bob Barr & Ron Paul will take votes away from McCain. The GOP is a fractured party.

I would've thought he was in the same mentally unstable state as the current candidates.

Uh...no. There is not a Bob Barr voter out there who one day woke up and said "I see the light...McCain is the right choice!" There are, however, PLENTY of libertarian-leaning conservatives in this country who would happily vote for the GOP if they picked someone who isn't a maverick liberal. The GOP has really messed up this time.
