What's sad and relevant (beside yet another example of his weak character) is people actually fall for how he's going to solve all our healthcare issues and yet he can't stop and "change" one of the most destructive and costly of personal behaviors.

I guess I fail to see the running the country/smoking connection you dreamed up. Perhaps you can chart out a diagram that explains it.

If you've ever smoked you know how hard it is to quit.

Obama was once a two pack a day smoker. He smoked Newports. Friends say he started in high school back in HI. He also smoked a lot of of Hawaiian Bud according to his former high school friends. He continued to smoke though college and law school according to one biographer.

Like most smokers he has tried to quit many times but always comes back to his addiction. Obama, like most smokers has lied about his addiction, telling his doctor in 2002 that he had quit. In 2006 using over the counter anti smoking products Obama claimed to have reduced his smoking to "5 or 6 cigarettes a day" according to his Chicago doctor. His latest medical report earlier this summer notes that he admitted smoking "on occassion".

Aides say he smokes regularly. In Raliegh NC just before his appearence at Dorton Arena he hurriedly chain smoked several cigarettes while talking to his NC staff.

If he wants to smoke that's his business.

He should quit! In his mother's family there is a high incidence of Cancer. His grandfather died of cancer. His mother died in midlife of cancer.

If Obama wins, ALL city-data Obama supporters should send a pack of Newports or an ounce of Hawaiian to:
Barry (wheeze, cough, spit up luggies) Obama
1600 Pennsylvania Ave
Washington DC

I'd rather have a president who is addicted to nicotine than one who is addicted to war.

Burnsie smoked cigars, which you don't inhale. Still cancer-causing, obviously, but much less so.

Well, how about we make it a rule that we can't elect anyone who eats red meat, sugar, fried foods, coffee, or who drives anything but an electric car or who gets caught not recycling a soda can, or who drinks alcohol, or who lives anywhere there are floods or tornados or.....you name it....what do you consider unhealthy or dangerous? If the worse thing you can say about someone is that they smoke then you've got a winner.

With apologies to Robert Palmer - RIP:

Your lights are on, but youre not home
Your mind is not your own
Your heart sweats, your body shakes
Another cig is what it takes

You cant sleep, you cant eat
Theres no doubt, youre in deep
Your throat is tight, you cant breathe
Another cig is all you need
