Don't blame me blame Gallup. Remember this is the polling company that shows them in a dead heat and has been highlighted by pro McCain supporters here. If you liked it for validity before then why not now. This is their article heading:
Obama Beats McCain on Most Character Ratings

In the June 15-19 USA Today/Gallup poll, Barack Obama leads John McCain among registered voters in a presidential preference test, 48% to 42%. The same poll finds Obama swamping McCain in Americans' perceptions of who has the better grasp of the problems Americans face, while McCain leads Obama by a slight margin as a "strong and decisive leader

This is their first paragraph

Implications
"Obama clearly wins Gallup's character ratings by volume; the question is whether he wins by a large enough margin on the dimensions that are most important to Americans when electing a president. Obama's six-point lead in the horse race in the same poll is an important summary indicator suggesting that he does."

Will be interesting to see how things play out over the next couple of weeks. McCain is finding his wings and voice so to speak so lets see how it plays out.

Here's a revealing one:

Is independent in his thoughts and actions

Obama-52%
McCain-36%

Now that makes sense, thinking people see McSame for what he is...an extension of George Bush and his failed policies.

Would stand up to special interests, including those aligned with his own party

Obama-48%
