I’ve been a huge fan of McCain’s for the last eight years or so and voted for him in the primaries. Lately, I’ve wondered if there wasn’t another Republican that would have been able to run a better campaign to keep Obama and his terrible policies out of the White House. There hasn’t been much energy to his campaigning, he’s been a bit bitter, his ads have gotten off message, and he has given into the party on some issues that have really irritated me.
This op-ed was a great reminder of what brought me to support McCain in the first place, and I, as the author does, hope that McCain gets back to the principals that made him so popular in the first place. Regardless, I will be voting for him because I believe that he would be a far superior president to Obama, but I fear that he is not going to be able to beat Obama unless he gets back to being the Maverick and running a more energetic, positive campaign that embraces the "Faith of His Fathers."
Also, for all those that like to talk about “McNasty” in his younger days and bring up his collegiate record on a regular basis, this piece does a good job of addressing those days.
