I find Barrack Obama to be a great public speaker but when it comes to debates, town halls or questions asked he does not have a talking point prepared, he seems to not be so good. I noticed that recently he has been doing alot of: "you knows" ahhs, "I think", "I guess", "and a"

He is starting to sound like President Bush if he is not talking from a scrip.

Agree?

Great Speaker? You mean great reader who can inject the perfect tone and inflection in his canned, teleprompter speeches.

Well, he's not an actor... the pauses and "uh"s are annoying but he always conveys his meaning and is succinct enough within the time he has to speak. He's not glib, he doesnt speak in sound bites, that's for sure. He doesnt seem to be a naturally talkative person. From his books, which he wrote himself without a ghost, it's obvious that he thinks and observes; from his academic history and resume it's clear that he writes and reads a tremendous lot.

I get the feeling that if he spoke in sound bites and pat answers - which would be the result of training since he's not naturally the chattery type - you'd all be complaining that he's slick.

I think it is because he thinks. Since conversations are free flowing, a certain amount of quiet or thinkig time is expected in a thinking man's conversation. The old adage of think before you speak is a good one and keeps you from saying things like " I looked into his soul" or " Hey let's go to war with Russia" or " Hey babe, let's hook up even though I am married with kids" Thinking is a good thing.

Ah, but thinking is suspect and elitist, as evidenced by the recent hiccup in the polls

Many on this forum have been warning the bots about obama's problem without the teleprompter. Do you believe now? Of course not.

It appears he needs to parse every word in his mind before it comes out his mouth. That leads many people to say "WTheck is he talking about", "Just spit it out, MAN!"
