For the rest of us, medically, a fetus is a sentient being at about 12-14 weeks. Morally, we recognize that a sentient being has rights, and socially, we don't execute sentient beings without a trial, unless we're committing murder.
Speak to any physican that have trained or practiced before Roe v. Wade and they will tell you how commonplace it was to see young women showing up at the hospital near dead from self-induced abortion.
