Does Hillary Clinton have a better chance of becoming POTUS someday if Obama is elected or if McCain is elected in 2008?

My guess is that Hillary is secretly hoping that Obama loses so that she can run again in 2012.

The next President will be a one term guy. If McCain wins, it will ensure a Democratic White House for several terms. If Obama wins, look for the third parties to gain more traction in 2012. I think the GOP will be done for soon. They can't control their message because fear and division only works against them.

I disagree. Everyone said Bush's administration would mean the DNC had a generation-long lock on the presidency, and we're in a horse race as of the latest polls (don't ask me why). Since he is probably a one-termer, McCain's VP pick is the key. If he goes "wow" (Sarah Palin, Colin Powell, etc.), the Dems are doomed. If he goes "another boring businessman" (Romney, et al) the GOP is cooked.

Both parties use fear and division. GOP terror threats are consonant with DNC racism and class warfare. It's called politics, and it's created a system in which so many pitchmen (and -women) are involved in gaining power, that no one knows how to create consensus and govern anymore...

It doesn't really matter. No US president has ever survived a bad economy. Not in the 20th Century, and not in the 19th Century.

Some smart-mouth will probably say "FDR" without realizing that FDR was first elected in 1932. The Great Depression was a series of economic recessions, and in 1936, FDR was elected while the economy was swiftly recovering from the previous recession, before it crashed again for its final time.

Neither one if president will get an automatic renomination. Obama will end up just like Carter and Kennedy. Carter had to fight a hard campaign and almost lost, and Kennedy, had he lived, would have been crushed in the primaries, and even if he survived, a split party would have automatically given it to Goldwater.

McCain would probably voluntarily step down to keep party unit and prevent embarrassment.

If Obama wins, Hillary has a potential future as president after he serves. If Obama loses, she doesnt have a chance because it will always be known that Hillary spoiled it for the democrats and divided the party and people will not want to go through this again. However you look at it, what some of the sour grape Hillary supporters are doing will backfire on them.
