Apparently, these were two impediments standing in the way Hillary had in making her decision to accept SOS position. For those criticizing her indecision, these were legitimate concerns. According to the source in the article, there's a very slim chance Hillary will run for president again. Bill Clinton will be an ad hoc member of the Obama team.
Clip:
You’re not going to be the president, so you want to make sure your next few years, which may be your last in public life, really make a mark.”
Two advisers to Mrs. Clinton said she was concerned about establishing her role in the administration before agreeing to the job. She wanted assurances that she would have direct access to Mr. Obama and not need to go through a national security adviser, they said. And she wanted the authority to pick her own staff at the State Department.
...
Advisers said Mr. Obama concluded after the election that the problems confronting the nation were so serious that he needed Mrs. Clinton’s stature and capabilities as part of his team, notwithstanding their past differences. The bitterness that inhabited the Obama team for much of the year has faded with time, advisers said.
It doesn't matter what Hillary demands, she will be under Obama's control and he can fire her at any time. When Obama asked her to be his Secretary of State, I bet before he even finished the word "State", in her mind she said "Yes." But she has to play this game as if it requires more thought and deliberation.
Hillary knows that her political future rested in the hands of Obama. He could've easily NOT made her part of this great team, instead keeping her as just another Senator, but he did her a favor.
She will do fine under his direction and she will do exactly what he tells her to do. Make no mistake about that.
I can understand why some of the Clinton haters are so upset. Listen to Obama he knows what he's doing. While he has to concentrate on getting the economy back in shape, he needs Hillary to help him with foreign policy. Obama's a pragmatist and he's starting to move more to the center as evidenced by former Clintonites he's appointing to the top positions.
Clip:
Whether Obama's appointments make sense can only be judged when those he has chosen have an opportunity to perform -- a caveat that applies to Clinton along with all the others, from Rahm Emanuel as White House chief of staff to Eric Holder as attorney general. But it should now be clear that the president-elect does not share the jaundiced view of the Clinton administration -- or the Clintons -- held so insistently by some of his own supporters. BO can't fire her, he could only suggest she resign, but since she and Bill will be running the WH, not likey that will happen. They may allow BO to have a room in the WH, but keep the Hell out of their way...!
Seems as if the concept of Unity is still lost on the naysayers. Yes Dorothy some people are capable of living together with mutual respect for all and a sense of common committment to the public good. It is not always about personal gain and self.
Maybe Republicans are losing because they have become losers?

Hey, I'm all for BO succeeding, he is all we have for four years, so he better succeed, but HILLARY CLINTON..? and all the rest of Bill's old gang...? Show me some change and I'l jump on the bandwagon...
I was pulling hard for BO tp beat Hill, so I would hopefully never see or hear from her again, now he puts her out their where decent people will have to see her...

Where has that sense of "unity" and public good been for the last 8 years of Left-wing hatred on Bush?

And don't you dare bring up unity..! Look at all the threads on here still bad mouthing McNain, Palin, Joe, etc..
Even in winning, your group won't let go of the insults and bad mouthing. You would think winning the election would be enough, but obviously not.

Another silly and pointless post.
