Head-to-head: McCain vs. Obama on education

After reading this article, I'm almost tempted to vote Libertarian based strictly on where both candidates stand on education. Obama and McCain are completely clueless on this issue. Although McCain's ideas are a little more sensible than Obama's ideas of more government & more spending, he still wants to keep the federal education programs in tact, which I strongly disagree with. Both Democrats & Republicans have become too similar on education because both sides favor keeping the failed public system in place.

Here are my proposals for education:

Closing the learning gap ... Privatize the system and give parents the choice as to where to send their children (so long as the parents are paying with their own money ... not mine).

Money ... Get the burden off of the taxypayers' backs and PRIVATIZE the system.

Standardized testing ... Privatize the schools and allow them to compete with other schools for better results.

Teachers ... Eliminate the unions, let teachers be part of the private system, and allow them to compete for better wages.

Sorry your not following the socialist and communist idealogy those ideas do not apply, try again.

Vote for Liberty you know how to vote for and it's not the 2 idiots of both mainstream parties.

How hard is this to figure out?

The US is in a financial crisis because people dont know how to save money, they dont know how to make smart purchases, they dont know how to manage debt or stay out of it, they dont know how to get a mortgage without being taken advantage of, they dont know how to invest, they dont know how to make financial plans, they dont understand how to manage their credit score, and they dont understand how important insurance is.

Now take a step back and think about this...what would happen if we actually required one class per year from K-12 that taught students the basics of financial planning and personal finance?

Half the problems we have today would be non-issues, yet personal finance education is almost non-existent. Now that is a real opportunity to bring "change"...educate our kids on how to be self sufficient and successful, even if they dont have a ton of money.

Such a course would be a good idea. But please.....Americans are too stupid to understand what a credit card means? How to add and subtract in their checkbook?
No, those 'kids' you talk about and the people who took out ARM mortgages were not naive, stupid, or simply didn't know any better. They are entitled brats. They want what they want, and they want it now. It doesn't matter if they can or can't afford it. They feel they deserve it. Now, how to solve that problem, I don't know.

Really? I mean, REALLY? So back in the day when people knew how to make smart purchases and didn't rack up debt and saved, they did this through classroom know how? So public education is the answer? Yeah...that whole racket is doing a bang up job on the sex education/teenage pregnancy problem too, isn't it? Education may be the answer, but it's starts at home with good examples and those who make bad choices should suffer the consequences and learn from their mistakes, rather than be bailed out by the Govt a-la the tax payer's dollars.

The problem now is that there is a gap, most people with kids dont have this knowledge, it needs to be taken care of somehow...and since we cant teach science without religious debates, or history without "offending" by telling the truth, why not stick to something black and white?

I'd say that would be fine ... but education should be like any other business: privatized & free of government control. That's the whole point of this thread. Public schools, even the better ones, have proven time after time to be failing in standards. Taxpayers are strapped with this burden of subsidizing education, which doesn't work when the government runs it. And those of us without kids have the unfair advantage of paying for other people's kids via property taxes & sales taxes, when it should be the parents who shoulder this responsibility.

I went to a private school in my grade school years, and it was the best educational experience I could ask for. Then I attended a public high school, and the comparison couldn't be matched! The poor test scores, unruly kids, high dropout rate, drugs, alcohol, etc. that existed in the public school I attended were non existent in the private system.

So the bottom line is: to improve the quality of education & relieve the burden from taxpayers, the only answer I believe is to PRIVATIZE, PRIVATIZE, PRIVATIZE!!!

The sad fact is I never once heard McCain or Obama or any of the other candidate in primary season talk about Education. Education is the most important issue in the nation. Every problem that arises has to be solved and thought about. It is difficult for uneducated people to complete that task because they do not have information to base their course of action on.

Im not so sure privatizing the schools would help. Private schools are expensive and everyday people dont have enough money as it is!
