I didnt like either speech (although I support McCain). I thought they were both boring. I dont understand why they need to explain their positions on issues, its all on their websites. What they need to talk about is how they plan to achieve that and both SEVERELY lacked in doing that.

I give both Obama and McCain a thumbs down in their speeches.

All one need to do is skim through these threads and realize that most are unable to use google.

Im so sick of hearing their positions on abortions, Iraq, etc. Cut all that crap out and explain your plans! I know your positions. I feel like I know them both like family after 2 years. McCain did a little better at explaining directly what he would do over Obama. But Obama delivered his better. So it was kind of a wash out for me and they just both sucked.

The difference is Biden sucked as well, and Palin did not.

Democrats best speaker that week-Hillary Clinton.
Republicans best speaker this week-Sarah Palin.

Women are just better speakers.

I don't think that's really the point of the speeches in general. My take is:

1. Debate speaking: ...is for us to see how candidates respond off the cuff...not buffered by editors and website designers.

2. Convention speaking: ...is basically a pep rally, more designed to drum up morale than to convince anyone of anything.

3. Acceptance speeches: ...are a "welcome to our party" for the running mate.

Speeches actually accomplish a lot more than giving literal information. They let us see how our candidates act under pressure, on late nights, after traveling/being tired, following either very good or very bad polling/reviews, in front of crowds that are either receptive or not...The information gleaned from all of this public speaking is about a lot more than issues.

For flat-out issues information, yes, websites are fine.

Out of the three possibilities above, debates probably bring out the most issues information...which is why I'm hanging on by my fingernails to see the VP debates.

Who beat up on Bush's failed policies more? I'd go with Obama, McCain and finally Biden.

I go with Obama. McCain can't speak he is soo boring. I understand why they were excited about Palin it woke them up. Altough I don't think McCain said anything new or direct I do think that Obama, McCain and some of the others who gave speahes were people we have heard many times before in all different places and situatios. I think with that said you can't look at them the same. Palin gave a speech but what can you compare it with. It like watching a High School freshman basketball game. There may be a new player that blows everyone away and people get excited and then they look to the furture about championship and all that. Everyone else in this election but her has played the game awhile. She is new and yes, she had a good speech but things are starting to come out that everything she said in that speech wasn;t so true. She may when she if ever gets to be interviewed and debated may not be the player that everyone one is so excited about. I'll be interested in seeing what people are saying in 2-3 weeks.
