Is there a separate forum for folks who wish to have a balanced discussion of the issues, rather than exchanging charged language and gross distortions?

Nope. Any thread that tries to discuss actual issues will either drop off the front page within 20 minutes or be converted to a "OBAMA IS A MOOOSLIMN!" or "MCCAIN IS OLD AND SENILE!" thread.

This is America. We have our own issues. We don't want to hear about theirs.

Sorry.

Its sad that we are so mixed up in trivial issues that we are not discussing the issues we really need to be. We have really got to start looking at the issues and researching it all so we can make the best informed decision we can.

Your desire for a balanced discussion is very admirable but barbs and jabs in political discussions are commonplace especially when the posters are protected by their anonymity. One has to enter such discussions with a sharp wit, a skillful pen, and a thick skin.

If you do find a truly fair and balanced discussion of election issues, I sincerely would like to know of it.

I dont know that people actually come on here to research and weigh issues. It's more like free primal scream therapy.

You could state up top that THIS debate topic will not involve personalities. Then be prepared to keep gently shepherding folks back on message, and to protect your own calm by wielding the "Ignore" button as if you were pruning a garden.
