John McCain is against Roe vs. Wade, and his running mate believes abortion is an atrocity and shares his commitment to overturning Roe vs. Wade. Given the fact that Bush feels the same way and has stacked the Supreme Court with anti-choice judges, and that McCain would most likely do the same if elected, will legal abortion become a thing of the past?
And even IF Roe v. Wade is overturned, it doesn't make abortion illegal. It would leave the issue up to "the states" technically. Even then, there's so much more precedent out there than just "Roe v. Wade."
A fact is, most states that WOULD outlaw abortion already basically don't HAVE abortion clinics, because of the hostility of the populace towards their existance.
South Dakota recently tried to put draconian measures against abortion, and they didn't go over very well with the populace.
I think probably not. Presidents Eisenhower, Nixon and Bush 41 all picked Supreme Court justices who turned out to be very liberal; and even Reagan's choices of Sandra Day O'Connor and Anthony Kennedy were in hindsight not his better moments from a conservative point of view.
Only President Bush 43 scored on each of his Supreme Court picks with John Roberts and Samuel Alito if you support conservative strict constructionists on the bench--those who believe Roe vs. Wade was terribly adjudicated.
Despite McCain's choice of Palin, he doesn't have a stellar record of being cozy with the evangelical Right. At least his past rhetoric indicates this. But maybe McCain's had an epiphany.
Speaking of McCain tapping Palin to be his running mate, he could very well prove to keep the White House in Republican hands for an additional 12 years, if he defeats Obama and if he decides to serve only one term, leaving the GOP nomination wide open for Palin in 2012. There is no Democrat on the horizon--Hillary, Obama or anyone else-- who could beat Palin in 2012. If I turn out to be right, then Palin would be the one who through her Supreme Court picks, could, um--how could I put this? --take Roe vs. Wade off life support once and for all.
Edit: TriMT7 is exactly right. It is true that South Dakota tried to go for the whole enchilada, and it didn't work out. But the strong majority of the people there oppose the strong majority of abortions that are performed.

Reason: ...managed to clarify the Bushes in the nick of time!
more political fear tactics. since 1973, we have had 4 years of nixon/ford, 8 years of reagan, 4 years of bush sr., and 8 years of bush jr., and we still have roe vs. wade.
Besides, Roe v. Wade is NEEDED by both Democrats (to keep women in line and held hostage by their uteruses) AND Republicans (to keep religious voters in line).
Waaaay too much money and fundraising is dependent on either fighting to keep, or defeat, Roe v. Wade.

Says it all. The worst case scenario is that most people would not be more than a few hours drive from a state where abortion is legal.

Exactly.
