I know one of the main reasons obama supporters think palin has no real experience in government is the fact that she is a governor.
Out of curiosity, what made clinton and carter different? Clinton was the gov. of arkansas, inarguably one of the absolute worst states for education, yet he did fine when president. Carter....Ok, not so much. But still his claim to fame was being a governor our of Georgia.
So, what gives dems? Is being governor a legitmate path to potus or not?

Obama followers hate Palin because her short amount of experience is still more than Obama has. She draws light to the inexperience issue.....Obama's inexperience......something Obamatrons do not want to talk about.

Yes, Bill Clinton was one of the worst governors in Arkansas history. He took a state in terrible condition, and somehow made it worse. He raised taxes every chance he had, in one of the poorest states in the country. Loves those poor, working class people, I'll tell you what......
Yet he gets lauded for what a great job he did there. Whatever. I grew up there. I know better.

It was more about their opponents.
Carter v Ford ... duh
Clinton v Wonderboy the first ... again, duh.

Over at Investor's Business Daily is a special series addressing just this point, The Importance Of Age And Experience. It covers all the Presidents since FDR and it has a few choice pieces in it, such as:
Quote:
The average age of the first nine U.S. presidents, who served from 1789 to 1829, was 59 when they were first inaugurated, and five of them served eight years in office. U.S. life expectancy at the time was only 49 years. How would you relate those ages to the situation today, when people live much longer?
A presidential candidate with an extra 15 or 20 years of practical executive experience over his opponent has an irreplaceable advantage. With that experience comes greater wisdom, better judgment and fewer serious mistakes, particularly in the critically complex and dangerous decisions involving national security and foreign policy. ...
On the domestic side, Carter gave us inflation of 15%, the highest in 34 years; interest rates of 21%, the highest in 115 years; and a severe energy crisis with lines around the block at gas stations nationwide.
In 1977, Carter, along with a Democrat Congress, created a worthy project with noble intentions — the Community Reinvestment Act. Over strong industry objections, it mandated that all banks meet the credit needs of their entire communities.
In 1995, President Clinton imposed even stronger regulations and performance tests that coerced banks to substantially increase loans to low-income, poverty-area borrowers or face fines or possible restrictions on expansion. These revisions allowed for securitization of CRA loans containing subprime mortgages. ...
Under two young, well-intended presidents, therefore, big-government plans and mandates played a significant role in the current subprime mortgage mess and its catastrophic consequences for the U.S. and international economies.
Hardest-hit by the mortgage foreclosures have been the citizens that Democrats always claim to help most — inner-city residents who fell victim to low or no down payment schemes, unexpected adjustable rates, deceptive loan applications and commission-hungry salespeople.
Now we're having to bail out at huge cost Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the very agencies that were supposed to stabilize the system. In time, this should improve the situation. But the party of Carter and Clinton that midwifed our mortgage mess now wants to be trusted to take over and have the government run our entire system of health care! ...
So, who would you rather have deal with and stand up to Putin's Russia, Iran's nukes, China's emerging power and al-Qaida's radical Islamic terrorists — someone in his 40s with little understanding of the military or someone in his 60s or 70s with sounder experience and judgment?
There are so many revealing statements in this series, but I'll not bore you any longer. I'd suggest any/all participants on this forum go here: IBDeditorials.com: Editorials, Political Cartoons, and Polls from Investor's Business Daily -- The Importance Of Age And Experience (http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=305507242693066 - broken link), read the whole thing - 5 parts - get a clearer picture. It's not all pleasant, that's for sure.

It's not the fact that she is a governor, but that she hasn't been a governor for very long, and prior to that her experience is as a mayor of a small community.
Carter had served in the US Navy, had 2 senate terms in the Georgia legislature and had served as governor of Georgia for 4 years, completing the term before running for President.
Clinton had been a law professor, then served as an Attorney General for Arkansas, and then had served as a governor for 12 years. Despite Northbound's assertion that he was a terrible governor, he kept on getting re-elected. He did work hard on improving education and roads in Arkansas.
My problem is with the hypocracy of critisizing Obama's experience and then hiring Palin. If McCain had chosen Guliani or something, then the agruement would still work, But palin was governour for a very short time in a very underpopulated state, and she was chosen ONLY because she's a woman! If someone has another reason that she was chosen instead of a more populous state's governour whos been in officer longer, than I 'd like to hear it.
