Is it illegal for a governor of a state to stand before in support of secession group (even if she herself doesn't believe in secession she is supporting their right to) in front of an American flag that has purposely taken out a star to show they want nothing to do with America? She can do whatever she wants as a citizen...but as governor? There are strict rules regarding the American flag. You cannot be an elected official and stand before an illegal American flag. It may even be illegal to display such a flag in a public gathering.

What if Obama was caught in same scene for Illinois secession group? Think Fox News would go insane?

Alaska was the 49th state admitted to the U.S., in 1959. The 49th star was added when Alaska became a state. For one year, from 1959-1960, the flag had 49 stars. (The 50th star was added when Hawaii became a state.) The 49 star flag in effect symbolizes Alaska *becoming* a state. The Alaska State Museum in Juneau includes a collection of 49-star flags.

All versions of the U.S. flags ever used are still legal, as new versions have been authorized, but old versions have never been unauthorized.
William M. Grimes-Wyatt, 21 February 1996
According to President Dwight Eisenhower's Executive Order (#10834, published 25 August, 1959) the 50-Star flag would become the "official flag of the United States on July 4, 1960." The Order also states "All national flags...now in possession of executive agencies...shall be utilized until unserviceable."
Earlier, the White House had issued the following statement to the public:
"By law, the new 50-star flag will become the official flag of the United States on July 4, 1960, the birthday of the Union. Display of the new flags before that time would be improper. However, it would not be improper to display the 48-star and the 49-star flag after that date; with limited exceptions agencies of the Federal Government will continue to display the 48-star and the 49-star flag so long as they remain in good condition and until existing stocks of unused flags are exhausted. It is appropriate for all citizens to do the same." (21 August 1959)

She still told the secession party to "keep up the good work."

beenhereandthere: Oh yes. If Michelle Obama was a member of a group that advocated secession of her state from the Union? Oh yeah. These folks would be ALL over it. But because it's Palin's husband--well, you know, they just kind of ignore what flies in the face of their logic.

History of the Stars and Stripes (U.S.):
Ok, I didn't know that. However, part of my point is, there is no way, particulary Faux News, would let a democrat "get away with that" and she still told them to keep up the good work. What good work?
Obama got ultra flack from being a part of a "American Hating Church" and having a wife who "hates America" (which she never directly said). But she's only received 20% of the scrutiny on this, that Obama did with his church.
Even if she was not a member, it's been proven that the first dude was.
