If you were in charge of picking the next President of the United States what experience would he or she have? What type of employment background would be perfect for next President? Please reply to my poll and discuss!

For the sake of argument, lets assume that regardless of their background, the person is sharp, a great leader, a wonderful communicator, intellectually gifted and able to understand the problems of you and I. I am just interested in knowing what type of employment background people think is best for the next United States President.

Bill Clinton was a governor. Bush was a governor. Why do people have a problem with Palin being a governor?

And a little dash of "Average Joe" can only help. Look at Harry Truman. He was one of the best presidents BECAUSE he was an Average Joe. I for one am excited about the prospect of Sarah Palin getting in the White House and making changes like she did in Alaska - and being truly FOR THE PEOPLE instead of just another Washington politician.

I don't want my president to be an "average" citizen.
I want him/her to be an exceptional citizen.

You left out not being an idiot. That would eliminate both of them.

Yup!! When I need a my taxes done, I go to someone qualified, not to a "folksy" idiot. But when it comes to politics, it amazes me that "being folksy" (different from having a "personality") is such a huge deal for so many. Things like actual experience, training, education, etc are so easily negated by fluff.

Exactly. Can you imagine some of the people on this board as president?

Or Rodney Dangerfield?

No thanks, give me Obama please.
