Couldn't agree more. They should be denied communion.
The Catholic church gives religion a bad name IMO. Maybe that comes across a little harsh. I don't want to bash another's faith. I'll just say, the Catholic church as well as the far right religious fundamentalists turn me off to religion. I read "Failing America's Faithful" by Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, and highly recommend it. It is about how the church has abandoned its traditional role of helping those in need and aligned itself with the right, and become obsessed with private social issues. It helped me reconcile my Christianity and my politics (its ok to be a Christian and a democrat).
My church welcomes all people to communion. I would much rather belong to a loving, outreaching church, than one who thinks it can decide who is good enough and who is not. That is only for God to decide. Shame on you for trying.
It is about time the Church takes a defiinite and vocal stand on this. Of course, a large percentage of Catholics will still vote Democrat...makes no sense.

What about all the Catholics who use birth control? I don't know a single Catholic who doesn't. Should they be kicked out of the church? Not allowed to take communion?

Perhaps people look at the big picture and realize that one issue doesn't trump all others? Maybe???
