The senators have got a direct input into this issue now, regardless of whether they win the election or not. The Gov. of AK does not.
The calls this week were part of the Bush administration's campaign to line up political support for a compromise deal with Iraq that cedes some authority over U.S. forces, and a courtesy to the presidential hopefuls on whose watch the deal would take effect.
A courtesy call, not part of negotiations involving foreign affairs committees.
My take on all this? The White House didn't want to go to all the trouble of getting Palin security clearances for what would probably be her first and only security briefing.
Obviously, the CIA and Rice do not think Palin is intelligent enough to receive and benefit from an intelligence briefing. It would be a waste of time for them to brief someone who can't make heads or tails of such data. Or they may have felt the briefing would end up being a tedious review of high school geography.
Come on, if they included her in the briefing they would have to have one of her tutors explain the difference between Sistani, Barzani, and Barnum & Bailey. It would have simply been too time consuming.
Hence why she was LEFT OUT of an INTELLIGENCE briefing
Oh the irony..
