The Pessimists' Party - The Daily Beast

Almost everyone I know who is not a democrat thinks and groans over the fact that Obama is going to be the next President. Most people I know who are left of center are very skeptical about it still.

It's the nightmare scenario, says Jay Rouse. "They're worried that Osama bin Laden is going to say, 'I want to have sex with Barack Obama.'"
That would be funny to hear.

A mediocre candidate [John Kerry] running against an incumbent [Geo W. Bush] in a time of war isn't likely to win under any circumstances; if anything, Democratic insiders were too quick to blame John Kerry for his loss.

Yes, key point here is IN A TIME OF WAR. Dubya saw to it that an unnecessary war was going on as of 2004, a presidential election year. Duh! GOP presidents absolutely LOVE wars! It's good for (re)electability, it's good for their friends the defense contractors, and it's good for keeping the lower classes occupied with being drafted, deciding to enlist for the money rather than deal with getting a crummy job, if not for the glory, etc. More soldiers means more Republicans, they believe anyway!

Kerry was a pretty worthless candidate though, lets be honest.

Kerry was a throw away candidate that should have never gotten so close to winning. The Republican brand was faltering even in the midst of fear and mayhem. I have been very confident in Virginia for two months now and have been laughed at by friend and foe alike, but when you walk into my neighborhood which is 70 percent Navy and you see cars and houses with Obama bumper stickers and yard signs, people walking their dogs in Obama gear, you have to see that the world has changed. People have laughed at my optimism, but I will continue to be optimistic that the post Viet Nam generation has a new vision without the baggage.

Name the Presidents in office when all of our previous wars were started, and tell us what party they belonged to.
Name the President that was in office when the draft was instituted, then name the President in office when it was ended. What parties did they belong to?

Well George Bush broke the mold, both of them. George Bush Senior was in charge when our first Gulf War was started. I think Reagan was in charge when we invaded Grenada? I think your model is old.
