Helen Jones-Kelly, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, confirmed today that she OK'd the check on Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher following the Oct. 15 presidential debate.

She said there were no political reasons for the check on the sudden presidential campaign fixture though the Support Enforcement Tracking System.

Amid questions from the media and others about "Joe the Plumber," Jones-Kelley said she approved a check to determine if he was current on any ordered child-support payments.

Such information was not and cannot be publicly shared, she said. It is unclear if Wurzelbacher is involved in a child-support case. Reports state that he lives alone with a 13-year-old son.

What you are talking about has to do with tracking our enemies and keeping us safe from further attack. You might remember that those that flew the planes on 9/11 were right here in our owm country. They didn't just arrive on that day.

It's important that we have the means to identify and track these people (typically they are middle easterners).

"Joe the Plumber" is your average citizen. Nothing suspicious about him. He asked a question at an Obama ralley; and suddenly he's under investigation by the Obama camp.

Sorry, but it's not the same thing. You lose.
You have proven my point. Average citizens are "investigated" everyday in the name of national security. Funny, I wasn't trying to win anything. If you want to live life deluded be my guest.

Sadly this is NOT the case. You must of forgotten that the government has the right to ALL of your privacy in the form of the Patriot Act. Oh you didn't see that coming when people were for it?...

I'll bet you a year's salary that someone already looked up Obama from a government facility to verify if he was "American" at least on more than one occasion already... I'll also bet that same amount of my salary that someone looked up Palin and McCain...

I'm not saying it's RIGHT...I'm saying that is the result of fear mongering...we the people gave the government this RIGHT.. Sucks when it's used against YOU doesn't it?

Read the countless accounts of how this affected non ARAB americans already who are stand up citizens..some are on THIS forum.. Sucks for everyone..not just Joe the Plumber...

Republicans in here have constantly defended the erosion of our rights by the bush/Rove administration saying,
"If you've done nothing wrong then you have nothing to worry about".

Well, if that fake plumber has done nothing wrong then REPUBLICANS should be perfectly happy with the investigation.

Please show proof that the Obama camp is having him investigated.
Can't do it, can ya?

Big Brother? You mean, like the Department of Homeland Security? You can thank GWB and his neocons for that.

Seems that the admonition of that is fine until they come after you might be gaining some ground in Republican circles. No one needs to go after him, McCain put him out on the executioner's block and ole' joe shot himself with his Israel comments. THere is a reason to have a professional statesman in the White House. and not Joe six pack. Joe should have been told, "Do not try this at home!"

No, we all lose. I'm not an Obama supporter but this reeks more of the Patriot act than a big-brother move by the Obama campaign.

McCain or Obama, the Patriot Act is here to stay. Some of it (maybe even a lot of it) is warranted to keep us safe, but there's a lot of 1984 tactics thrown in there under the guise of "defending America".

Huh???? Who's "shouting for attention"?
Joe the Plumber a fraud? According to whom? You? And who are you? Judge an jury?

I think you have some explaining to do. This guy is no fraud. He's for real, whether you like him or not, and he doesn't deserve to be investigated because Obama didn't like what he asked.

This whole thing is very telling. Obama is a Chicago thug. A scumb bag of the worst kiind.

And, by-the-way, McCain is no fraud either. He served our country with honor. To call him a faud is dispicable.

Already did, and it's common knowledge. Even before this story broke, it was reported that the Obama campaign had it's investigators sent to Toledo, Ohio to check him out. This happened within a day or so of the exchange between him and Obama.
